Favorite Dr. Seuss Activity

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I need one activity to do with a Dr. Seuss book this week (2nd grade). I've done some in the past, but looking for something new. Any ideas or things you've done and loved? It could be a craft, a game, anything really. I'll have about an hour to read the book and do the activity. Thanks!

Making Ooblek is a must! They love it and parents are super excited to hear their kids talk about "non-Newtonian fluids."

We are adding this book to discuss feelings and colors. There is a freebie response book on TPT, paint or color a picture. Create color poems exploring feelings.

in the teachers' lounge and type in Dr Seuss and you'll get lots of ideas.

I didn't read them all, but in 2018, a teacher posted something about "What Pet Shall I Get" and activities that sounded fun.

We have parent volunteers come in and cook green eggs and ham (Canadian bacon) while I read the story with the kids. They get so excited to smell the GE&H aroma as we're reading! The kids wear Dr. Seuss headbands I get at Target Dollar Spot at 6/$1.

I love My Many Colored Days. Especially because it's so different than any other Seuss book. We read it and then the kids do a chalk drawing in a similar style (pick an animal, two colors, very simple) and then write about their feelings (I teach kinder so we do a sentence frame of On my ____ days I feel ____). They always turn out really nice!

And these are the nonsense rhyming words one angel write on his Cat in the Hat stripe today. And yes, he got to do that one over.

He just subbed a "u" when he meant an "o." It was innocent.
