I am irrationally pissed about this. Each morning admin gets on the PA system and announces what time it is and that we all need to be in our ďplacesĒ and ďready to welcome the kids.Ē

The heck. I know where to be. Every single day they do this. Any other schools?

My admin did this at my old school. Shows a total lack of trust in teachers. I hated it.

Some teachers are notoriously late for assigned duties. We are not all paragons of professional responsibility. I have no problem with a daily reminder that it's time to be where you're supposed to be. It doesn't show a lack of trust. It shows an awareness of reality. All hands on deck. We are legally required to supervise kids starting now.

Thankfully, our p is past this, but that is similar to not starting a meeting on time waiting for people to show up. Well, if we don't start until 740 for a 730 meeting, then it is okay if I come at 740? What about those of us who are there on time?

We went through some of those announcements, too.

It would annoy me, not because of the actual announcement , but because I worked with too many teachers who shirked their duties. And got away with it.

Over the intercom, our administration calls out people who are not at their stations.

Yeah, we have a lot of teacher turnover.

It could possibly be reason to reprimand/fire a person from a job. My friend said at his school there were similar announcements. When one teacher showed up late various times, that teacher said she was unaware of the time and that the school clocks were wrong. After the announcements were repeatedly made, the teacher could no longer use the excuse that she wasn't aware of the accurate time.

It would still annoy the #$%^& out of me.

I know this is probably an unpopular opinion - but I'm the kind of teacher who often gets lost in my work and doesn't realize what time it is. I have so many alarms going off on my phone for different things. So, I would actually love a PA reminder like that! I get how it would annoy some though.

That would be very annoying, but I have a major problem at my school. I am on time in the gym, but my two other teachers aren't. It makes me very irritated and is a security risk.

One school where I sub announces ďall subs to the front to assist (with getting students off the bus or out of their cars).Ē Most of the subs and teachers donít come forth until 15 minutes later to pick up their students.

We don't have an announcement, but we do have a bell. It helps teachers remember to go to duty and it's the kid's signal that they can enter the building (early dropped-off car riders have to stand out front til the bell rings). Bell doesn't seem as patronizing.

I feel the same way. I always liked our quick, pleasant "3 minutes to the bell" warning which gave me time to clean up what I was doing and get to my duty.
