Birthday gift ideas for GF?

So my Gentleman Friend is having a birthday on Friday. We are going out to dinner (I am paying) and to see Harriet (he bought tickets).

He has given me some nice gifts (very fancy chocolates; crystal vase and flowers) and some small ones (calendar...)

For Christmas I made him a pair of wool socks (washable wool in case his laundry habits are basic...but then he told me he washes wool socks by hand in Woolite).

Ideas for a birthday gift? I am considering making a second pair of wool socks, because I know he loves being outdoors and he meditates at a center that has cold floors...but it seems unoriginal, and I can't start them till later this week, so they would not be finished in time. I know the kinds of things he likes to read, but not what he has already read, so a book would be difficult unless I think way out of the box. (Which I suppose I could do...) He lost a hiking pole the last time we went hiking--it fell in the river when we sat down on a bridge for lunch, but I have no idea whether he has replaced it...suppose I could find out...

Help me out, please!

I'd go for replacing the hiking pole. They are pricey if you shop the outdoors stores though, so be prepared. Maybe something else for outdoors if he's already replaced the poles.

I think the hiking pole is a great idea! It shows you pay attention when you're together. Even if he bought a replacement, it won't hurt to have 2.

Are there other places you'd like to go hiking that you haven't been? Maybe print out the place in a cute way and tie it to the top of the stick. Think of what else you did that same day (or would like to do) that you could add to it to make it more of an "adventure" gift to be used on an outing together.

I checked on line and the poles I like are a reasonable price...not much more expensive than really good middle/heavy weight washable sock wool...

I ordered a pair. I will get worsted weight sock wool as well...good for hiking, and cross country skiing. They will take a couple weeks to finish, but the poles will be here in time for his birthday.

Since hes given you expensive gifts, Id go for the hiking pole and socks. Id write a sweet note with the socks explaining theyre unfinished/developing just like your friendship.

He will love the pole and the socks. I think he would love a bag of dirt if it came from you- hes quite smitten!
