My school doesn't offer too many after school clubs so my principal has put me in charge or starting up a few! I need ideas.....what does your school offer for after school programs?

The school I am at now offers fiddle throughout the whole year, and then at various times throughout the year there is running club, soccer and ball hockey - next year we're thinking of starting a student council.

The school I was previously teaching at there was : student council, after-school sports, jump-to-be-fit (a jump rope club), drama, comic book club (at recess), choir, recorder and lunch time sports, that I can remember.

We had cooking, legos, sports, gardening, technology, art, french, and chess. However, teachers were not in charge of it. Parents volunteered to organize everything, and parents ran most of the clubs. Teachers could if they wanted to, and I think a few teachers did help out. We do have a teacher who runs girls' club for Latino and African American girls (4th and 5th) throughout the year.

last year was the stewardship club. Kids mostly did recycling. Something about staying after school, pushing a cart down the hall and chatting with teachers struck a cord. By the end of the year, there were probably 25 kids in that club. Classrooms tried really hard to come up with enough recycling to give to those wonderful kids.

the last 30 minutes of the day every Friday. Here are the ones I can remember off the top of my head:

Fancy Nancy club (mine, of course! )
Soccer/Kickball/Cheerleading/Golf/Dance (separate clubs)
Chess/Checkers
Board Games
Legos (could be one club with board games?)
Manatee Friends (school mascot is manatee, fifth graders partnered with autistic students from our school)
Earth Patrol (sounds like the stewardship club mentioned)
Horse Lovers
Scrapbooking/Arts and Crafts/Crafting (separate clubs)
Gardening
Play-dough
American Girls Club (based on the books and dolls)
Hacky Sack
Music

I'm sure there are others but I can't think of any right now. Each club was run by at least two teachers out of one of those teachers' classroom or somewhere outside on campus.

I'm going to try to start a science club this year to do all of the cool experiments I don't get to in class. I would also love to do a gardening club and start a school garden. My old school had a recycling club and a Just Say No club run by the counselors.
