When I call in to report suspected neglect, do I have to give my name? I'm in Texas if that matters.

thanks,

I don't have information about Texas (don't live there). In my state I believe mandated reporters do give their names, but can specify that it is to be kept confidential.

I'm thinking that if they have your name on the report, you can prove that you did report the suspected abuse/neglect. Since we are required to report, it may become important. I know that in my former district a couple of teachers and an administrator are being investigated for not filing reports.

In my state they do not reveal the name of the person that called. The person may ask, may say was it X, but CPS will not reveal the name.

You do not have to give your name. However, if you donít you will have no documentation to cover yourself as a mandated reporter.

You can also give your name and request that it be kept anonymous. However, from experience although they tell you they will, they do not always keep your report anonymous.

They have taken all my info each time I've reported. It is to remain anonymous otherwise though. You have to report if you have a suspicion of something so I wouldn't worry about it and just make the report.
