Spelling tests

Is this fair?

Spelling pretest given on Monday.
If you make at least an A-, you are given challenge words - just for fun. No extra points.

If you donít make at least an A- on the pretest, you take the test again on Friday.

Hereís what I think is unfair. Those that get two chances to get an A+ and the others are stuck with an A- or A.

Not a huge deal, but could decide between letter grades if it happens enough.

Thoughts?

Our 5th grade teachers do a pre-test on Mondays also. The difference is... If you get a 90%+, you can choose to keep that grade or take the test again on Friday and hope for a better score. Everyone else must take the Friday test.

Our students have to show growth. If they get most of the words correct on a pre-test, they get a more difficult list of words.

The op schoolís method makes no sense to me.

Do they all get the same words? That's not right.

I haven't given a spelling test in at least 20 years.
