With all the talk of where to start when we go back to school made me think of a math project that some wonderful PT shared. It's the Favorite Number Poster. I'm starting with that activity because it will give us a way to review all kinds of numbers and vocab.

You may already have it, but just for those who may not have run across it, here it is.

I used it in summer school but did not keep an example. It was interesting to see how many students going into 5th grade didn't know how to write an equation with their number as the difference! It's an excellent way to refresh and review old learning and to assess students strengths and challenges in math.

I love all the different types of practice in one place!!

(Of course, my own kid told his 3rd grade teacher that his favorite number was pi, so I think he'd have a hard time with some of it.)

Thank you for taking the time to share!

Most students could easily finish the required elements of this assignment in a class period, but some may put a little more time and effort into making their poster more creative and colorful. How much time it takes would also depend on how much review and/or instruction you'd have to do before letting students start to work.

Did you have the students do all the components on their poster? It seems like it might be a lot to put on a poster. I like the idea and am going to try it this year. Thanks for sharing it!

I am going to keep this for students when they finish other work early. They can work on it for a long time that way and still have review when they are finished. Thanks for sharing!

It is great! Thank you for sharing! I'd love to see a finished poster, too. I know I have a VERY low group coming up, so this will be a great way to gauge how much the DO know! Thank you!!
