Best read alouds to help teach good classroom behavior

What have you found are good read alouds for your class to listen to and discuss in terms of being good students, listening to the teacher, being respectful, etc. I have a class full of boys this year and the last 2 weeks have been...... crazy. I need something to get them thinking about their behavior and make them calm down, be polite and listen.

I did a science lesson on tracing hands and then examining our fingerprints....THEN I read "Hands are not for Hitting..." by Martine Agassi, it was a great tie-in. There is a whole series of behavior related books by this author--Im going to read "Words are not for Hurting" next week.

Dr. Jean also has a book "THe Rules of the CLassroom" that is good too.

Have you tried the book, "have you filled a bucket?" I always like to start with that. It sets a respectful tone in the room. Good luck!

"No David!" was pretty good, then you could have them create their own David and write a rule that they think is important.
