East Coast earthquake

Anyone else feel the 5.1 magnitude earthquake this AM? I was reading in bed a little after 8 when the bed started to shake and the house to rattle. Lasted 5-6 seconds. Very unusual for us to have a noticeable earthquake in my part of NC close to the SC line. The epicenter was near Sparta, NC, close to the VA line.

It's the strongest one we've had since 1916. There are few faults in our part of the country and the rock deep down is dense causing the tremors to be felt over a larger distance than in other places.

Some unusual excitement and another plague to add to all the plagues of 2020.

My daughter lives in NC and felt it too. She is nowhere near the epicenter.

I missed all the excitement. I missed the last one we had, too. I didn't notice anything at all. I hate to think I am self-absorbed.

Is there fracking in that area? I've read it can cause quakes in areas that aren't normally much affected.

Most of my neighbors felt it but I slept right through it. BTW, I am in Virginia.

I am so glad there were no injuries or major destruction, at least not when I heard the report! I'm glad you're OK and hope its just as long before the next one!

I missed it in central VA. We get small quakes from time to time.
