I need an honest opinion from Christian teachers

I am in a great paying district with many things to offer the kids. However, I'm finding myself more and more discontent with the administration (who truly has no clue what he's doing), with a controlling school board that is data driven to the point of insanity, and with a team member that is filled with more drama than a Broadway play.

There is a neighboring district that has a position open that I would love. I know many teachers there and they tell me all great things: wonderful principal, supportive board, the team that has the open position is great, etc. The pay would be a bit lower...about 8K lower, but I'm of the opinion that if everything else would be better, I can deal with the decrease in pay!

What's the problem? I've prayed and prayed about this, and I'm getting nothing from God; nothing that says I should move on or apply. I truly believe in the power of prayer, and I also believe that God will guide you in both the big and small decisions. This is a big decision for me, and as of now, He's been pretty silent on the topic.

So my question to you...what do I do?! What would YOU do?

Thank you!!

I would apply for the position. If God closes the door, so be it. If he doesn't close the door, then walk through.

You've got to "put your foot in the water" and take a step of faith. Watch and wait to see how He answers your prayer. I'm excited for you!

Apply. See what happens. Don't wait for a sign to begin the process.

I agree - I would keep praying, give it to God, apply, and see if the door remains open or closes.

I think the sign is in the second paragraph-all the positive qualities of that school.

I agree with all telling you to apply. As you go through the process the path you should follow will become more obvious. Keep praying along the way.

Godís not going to tell you whether or not to

But he will open and close doors. You need to go ahead and apply for the job and see what happens. If you get an overwhelming feeling one way or the other, listen to your gut. God will lead one way or the other.

Apply and see what happens. Listen carefully to comments from others (including non co-workers and non-teachers). When you are praying make sure you allow some quiet time. Be aware of what you read in the Bible, a devotional or even a secular book or magazine. You could consider talking with your pastor/priest if you feel that might help guide you. Let us know what you decide to do.

I would apply and ask God to close the door if this change is not in His will.

Sometimes no answer is the answer as in perhaps I wasn't ready yet. One of the best messages I ever listened to in church was the one where the speaker suggested that the absence of an answer could mean I wasn't listening well

I agree with the others. Apply for the position and continue to pray about it. The answer usually becomes obvious, one way or the other.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond! I have spent what seems like hours creating a brand new resume and cover letter. It has been over 20 years since I've had to create one! Oy!!

I still have time before I need to turn in the resume package, so I will continue to pray about this.

Thanks again!!

The sign is that the position became available when you were feeling discontent with your current situation.

I agree with the others in continuing to pray about it and apply for the job. I've also found that when I'm praying.... to listen. That was hard for me. I want to talk the whole time, but when I paused within my prayer and waited, sometimes God revealed things to me that I hadn't thought about.

A similar situation came up recently for me. An opening came up somewhere else and I had no intention of applying for it, although I was struggling with my current P's unprofessional attitude. I wasn't looking to move since I'd been at the current school for almost 20 years. The more I prayed about it, the more peace came over me and the more I realized (through God) the new opening was for me. I applied and it took a while to actually happen, so I questioned it, but it went through and I can't be more thrilled.

God and I have a pretty good understanding about silence, after several points when he was silent to my frustration. The understanding is this-In my time not in yours. God was silent from time to time with some of his very favorite people-often because he was trying to draw them in by making them hunger for him. Its your season hun, and He is making your heart grow fonder for His absence, the silence isnt really a message-Its bait to draw you nearer. Longing makes us ask, emptiness makes us seek, silence makes us knock and Luke 11:9 tells us what happens when we knock.

Just because he isnt answering doesnt mean he doesnt have an answer for you he is just gonna let you do you for a bit while he waits to answer. It can wait while he draws you nearer. Why does he do this...well Isiah 55:8 tells us his ways are different from ours, we arent likely to understand it all. So, you do you, and do it with the knowledge that he is there, watching and having your back. He will stop you from it if its something that would hurt you, Jeremiah tells us us that (all things work for the good of those who love him after all) so give it a shot and know that if he wants it for you it will be yours and in the mean time keep on drawing close to Him. Its what he is looking for after all.
