arthritis advice needed

I have arthritis in my knees, my cortisone shot did not help my left knee. Friends have told me they have had gel shots in their knee which worked well. Is this an option to try before I decide on knee replacement?
Thanks for any advice you can share with me.

I can speak from my experience that maybe you are already to the point of needing the knee replacement with bone on bone. My doctor said a shot wouldn't really help. I totally understand understand the pain and stiffness. I'm getting physical therapy to get ready for knee replacement.

DH is getting ready to think about a replacement. He is 53 and wants to put it off a few more years. But, I keep telling him that the future is out of our hands. Live a life now.

Good luck.

Cortisone shot worked for about 4 weeks for me. Gel shot did nothing. I think it may have been part of protocol for some insurance companies before knee replacement. What does your ortho recommend?

I know people who have been helped by the gel injections. there are different types. Make sure you are going to a well qualified provider. Physical Therapy has helped me strengthen the supporting muscles/tendons/ligaments. Doing PT before knee surgery makes the recovery rehap easier.

Thanks for the replies, I will call my doctor again to see what he suggests.
