What can you tell me about using iReady in kindergarten? How accurate is the initial diagnostic testing? How accurate are their suggested groupings? How easy is it for K students to work on lessons independently? Are you a onene device class or do your students share devices? Did you have a set time when students had to work on iReady lessons or was it a choice during small group time with the stipulation that they had to work three 15-minute sessions a week?

If you use it, do you have any suggestions, tips or recommendations for me to share with my kindergarten colleagues? My district is going to use iReady for math and reading this coming school year. We haven't had the training. They did say that kindergarten would not do the initial diagnostic tests in September. We will wait until October.

My district has used it for year. Its hard in K at the start of the year because we dont have 1 to 1 and students had to work on the desktop. Everything looks like a game and the lessons are based on what they do on the benchmarks, but you can also assign lessons based on how they are performing in the classroom. The benchmarks are pretty accurate so I used the to make my initial groups. We have students work for 30 minutes per session but the only went 2 or 3 times based on tier. Tier 1 students went during center time for 15-20 minutes.

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

I am going through the site this summer to become familiar with what I can since I don't know when we will get training.

We use it, but only for math assessments 3x a year. My kids take it because I was told they have to. That's pretty much the sum total of my involvement with it.

I like it waaay better than iStation, FWIW.

I felt that it wasnít the best to measure what my students knew. We used it for both math and reading. The math was better then reading. The lessons for reading were slow and ridiculous, but they did say they were changing them up for next year. All my kids mastered the letter names and sounds by January yet after taking their diagnostic, they were still doing letter recognition practice. They were bored and just started tapping any answer and failing lesson quizzes, not because they didnít know, but they were interested. They enjoyed the math much more.

My mindset with it now is that it is a tool the kids use, but I take the assessments with a grain of salt. I donít stress over the results any more
