Magnesium oxide as migraine preventative?

Has anyone had any luck with this? I have menstrual migraines and 1-2 migraines at other times of the month. I just saw my ob-gyn and he recommended 500mg daily of magnesium oxide as a preventative.

I can't speak to magnesium oxide, but several of my friends take Natural Calm as a headache preventative. That has magnesium carbonate. Not sure the difference, but my gut says it will help!

Friend with migraines

My friend has severe migraines and so does her daughter. Both of them tried magnesium. It reduced the number of migraines a little. What their doctor recommended was to have their daith in their ear pierced. Both had it done. It has worked for my friend and somewhat for her daughter.
You may want to look into that if the magnesium doesn't work.

I have a daith! Been migraine-free, too.

I'd try what your doctor suggested. What do you have to loose?
Glad you have a doctor who is willing to explore a solution with you.

Thanks for the replies. I have started taking it but Dr. Google said it takes 4-6 weeks to build up in the body.
