So we were recently away on vacation with a large group of family and friends and one couple mentioned that at home they swap in a double bed. DH and I are firmly in the king bed camp. Were kind of spoiled about it. Lol. So for example when we were away recently it was a double bed so one of us slept on the couch. I just cannot sleep that close to someone else!!!! Do most couples have king beds? Or is everyone else sleeping in doubles and I just never knew???

KING bed here!!!!! We can make a queen work if we need to, but a double is next to impossible! We recently stayed at our DS's for the night and his spare room is a double bed. I slept in the bed and DH slept on the couch!

I was married for nearly 30 years, and we always had a queen bed. Never felt crowded. I've been single for a long time and still have a queen bed. My parents and grandparents slept throughout their long marriages in double beds. My children and their spouses share king beds.

New American homes today often have gigantic master suites with bathrooms the size of the third bedroom in my 1970's ranch. And my 1970s ranch is much bigger than the 1950s ranch (with only one tiny bathroom for 6 people) that I grew up in.

Our expectations have changed. Everything about the average new home is bigger and more expensive. Too expensive for many.

Many Americans are also much, much heavier than our parents and grandparents. Perhaps that's why our beds are bigger.

When we were married we had a double bed. The bedroom suite was 7th generation. We used it for 14 years. We renovated and I insisted on a king. He hates the king but I love it.

My husband and I had a full size bed for 33 years of our 34 year marriage. We are both huge (he's about 300 pounds and I'm about 200 pounds ) but we slept comfortably together in our full size bed. We like to touch when we sleep. It used to make for.a good night's rest.

Then things changed. A 60 pound yellow lab mix came into our lives, and our bed. Even though we had a similar size dog in our bed before, that dog curled up at our feet. This dog sprawls out, and if she happens to be in the wrong spot, she is stubborn and will not budge. A bigger bed was a must.

Now we have a queen size bed and I love that the dog can sprawl out in our bed. On occasion she spreads out where I need to sleep, but it's an easy fix it I can manage to scoot her to the middle of the bed.

I miss sleeping against my husband. There are some nights I really need to sleep close. It helps me fall asleep, helps my emotions.

When we first married we had a double bed. Now we have a queen bed and love it! Once we went on vacation and had a king sized bed, we did not feel quite comfortable. We love our queen bed!

We had a full when we married and finally upgraded to a queen after about eight years. Those six inches or so really make a difference and I can tell when we get a hotel with a full/double versus a queen. I personally would love to to get a king, especially on those nights I come to bed and my husband is sprawled out taking up my side and his side.

I sleep on a king-sized bed with the dog, and he sleeps on a full-sized bed with the cat! One of us snores very loudly, so we decided that sleeping in different rooms would give us better quality sleep. When we go on vacation and have to sleep in the same bed, it's not very comfortable because we both really like to sprawl out.

King bed here! I dont like to be touched and dont like feeling the heat off DHs body.

I like my space! When we travel we can survive with a queen bed, but no way a double.

We have a queen. A king wouldn't fit in our older house's master bedroom, and I always think a king feels too big when we do have one on vacations.

We could sleep on a full width but need the queen length because DH is tall. He'd probably be happier on a CA King length because he could stretch out.

and stayed in an Air BnB, two hotels, and a bed and breakfast. The Air BnB said it was a queen size bed, but it was a double. That was particularly annoying. The bed and breakfast had a double also. Hotels had queen or king beds.

We have a queen at home. Sleeping in those double beds was challenging.

We slept our first 18 years on a double bed. In our last move we got a new bed, and got a queen. I was very nervous that we'd get too spoiled and wouldn't be able to sleep on a double again. I do like the queen - I like having some space, and often like to get away from the amazing amount of heat my DH puts out. I wouldn't want a king, too big.

So funny --- I'm SINGLE and have a queen bed. I just purchased a new bed (my current bed was purchased when I married my EX in 1996; I was ready for a change!), and didn't even consider anything smaller. I love sleeping smack dab in the middle, all by myself.

We both love our king bed! Recently we changed our bedding though and now we love it more. We both have single comforters with duvet covers. I keep a summer weight comforter and he keeps his winter weight comforter.

King for us - even though our 1960s ranch house bedroom was meant for a double. It's always been a must - he's tall and I like to cuddle, but then roll to my side and tuck the sheets in tight around me. We hope to be able to remodel and make the master bigger.

For the first 12 years we had a full size bed. Then we went straight to a king. On vacation a queen will work, however, I no longer want to sleep in a full size bed.

Started out w/a queen 44 years ago. Seemed so spacious to me because I was used to a twin!

Years packed a few () pounds on us, so we enjoy our King.

Now DH would like a double because he likes to sleep close. I like my space!

We started with a double. We saved up for a King. I thought that was a bit of overkill, dh really wanted one.

LOVE the King. Have had it for over 20 years (different ones, same style). I don't like to be touched or breathed upon and sometimes I still have to shove him away because he's too close

I don't know how they did it on Mad About You-- that bed is way too small

We have a queen, but had a double for the first five years of our marriage. We don't have any trouble sleeping on a double but prefer a queen. I do enjoy kings when we are in a hotel, but not enough to pay extra for it.

Dh and I started our marriage in a 3/4 bed...even smaller than a double! We were small people...and we were in love. We used that bed from 1980 till 1996. At that point, we bought a house and there was a double bed mattress and frame in the bedroom, so we decided to try the double bed. So much better!

About 15 years ago, we switched bedrooms and bought a new queen.

Sadly, I now have it all to myself...but I do like the space!

We've always had a king. I love to cuddle but don't like being touched while I sleep. Plus dh likes to twist and turn the covers, and I don't move. We were on vacation and had a full and it was awful! Neither of us could sleep!

EX and I had a full bed for five or six years, then we upgraded to a king. Apparently Im like sleeping with a furnace. When we separated, I moved to the middle of the king bed.

DH and I both like to sprawl in the bed, so we love the king. We also have 5 dogs who sleep with us.

My parents always had a full bed.

DH hates our king

It is too soft for his liking but I adore my bed. So, he sleeps on a futon that he loves in a spare room.
He is a cop and works graveyard so it works out.

And if we go somewhere and sleep in a queen together, it is too small!
