6 Traits

My school has no formal writing program in place. Individual teachers just do different do writing projects based on a variety of genres that meet the standards. Besides the standards, there is nothing else to go by for writing. I have a lot of ideas for writing projects, but I am also really interested in doing something with 6+1 traits.

It's been years since I've used this program, but I feel like to introduce the traits, there were mini-lessons or some activity or something based on each individual trait. Does this sound familiar? Can anyone point me in this direction or another direction with resources for 6+1 traits? Thanks! I teach 4th grade, by the way.

We use 6 traits as a writing framework at our school. Kristina Smekens does a lot with the traits. Check out her website-she has tons of resources. Launching the Writers Workshop book by her is a great resource.

I second Kristina Smekens. Not only does she have resources, she has videos of her introducing each of the traits with specific picture books, along with other mini lessons. I attended several of her workshops when I taught, and they were the best PDs I encountered.
