Does anyone have a creative way to teach key words to help the students learn if they will add or subtract to solve a word problem?

Thanks,

I have my students use red and green map pencils to circle the clue words in the story problem. The green = add and the red= subtract. We have a word wall wth the words for each operation. On each word card is a sticker that is either red or green. Students find the word on the word wall and look at the sticker next to it and they know what color to circle the clue word in the story problem with. This in turn tells them what operation they must use to solve the problem. I hope this helps.

This is a great resource! I may use it as a poster on my math word wall. Thanks for sharing.

I created this several years ago and just change the names each year to my new student names.

Thanks for sharing the Halloween Word Problem Document. I really like it and I created one of my own using your suggestions.
