I am first year pre-K teacher and I am going to have my first observation from my principal this soon. She wants to see me do an activity where the kids are practicing writing their names. Does anyone have a creative idea for me other then just having them writing it on paper?

I agree with Kteacher re: shaving cream and pudding! I'd add you could also use sand or cornmeal. Another fun way to practice is to give them a name tag and pipe cleaners. Encourage them to form the letters with the pipe cleaners. Most kids like to write on (laminated) name tags with wipe-off markers as well. Good luck!

Why does he want to observe you practicing name writing? That in itself is not a lesson but a skill that should be developed through a variety of activities. There are so many better things you can be observed doing. Anyway I would start by reading a book about friends or people or something and then let them get messy and do what pp said - write their names in shaving cream. Messy but fun.
