Needing Cause and Effect Lesson Ideas

With the implementation of Tennessee's new teacher evaluation model, planning and delivering any lesson (much less one for an observation) can be a bit overwhelming. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions regarding a cause and effect lesson that has a great track record for enhancing student learning?

Grade level?

We use a two column charts and brainstorm either give them the cause or give the effects:
Cause Effects
It's raining outside indoor recess, puddles on the ground, grass is wet,

Cause Effect
I did not clean my bedroom got grounded
couldn't have a friend over
tripped over my dirty clothes

Also , read alouds Because of Winn Dixie-every good thing that happens to Opal is because of her dog

Cause and Effect

I start my lesson by doing a couple of demonstrations in front of the class. I walk through the room reading and kick over the trash can. I find a new balloon, then I blow it up, then I pop it with a pin. I set up some dominos and then I bump the table. At this point we discuss what happened and why. I then read If You Give A Mouse a Cookie or one in that series. As a class we make a list of all the cause & effects found in the story. I have a PowerPoint that we watch that explains cause & effect. It also has several examples that the kids figure out either the cause or the effect. The next day we review the concept and then we play a "I Have, Who Has" game that I made up. I find that using a demonstration gets their attention and I can go from there. I hope this helps.

Try Because Amelia Smiled. We used it for a whole school character assembly. My kids then each wrote two pages (because Susie asked me to play....I learned a new game) and we made a class book.

It is a wonderful lesson on how you impact others, plus a perfect real life cause and effect lesson.
