Single phone line deals?

My ds needs to change carriers. His college campus gets horrible service from our carrier. We started looking around and it's outrageous for one line as opposed to a family plan! Also you have to account for the phones as well.

Really the ones that get decent service out there are Verizon, sprint, and ATT. We went to sprint and it's like 70 plus tax for one service line not including phone.

Total Wireless - it uses Verizon towers so you get great coverage, but the rates are significantly less and you don't have a contract.

We use Consumer Cellular. Cheap ($25) and no contracts. Here's something to check out: the SIM card. DS19 and DH went to DS's college orientation last week at his new university. DS had great cell reception; DH had virtually nothing. By calling Consumer Cellular, They determined that their iPhones had two different SIM cards that used two different carriers--one Verizon, which is good, and one AT&T, which is lousy. So DH is going to get a new SIM card to improve his service.

We do Smart Talk through WalMart. It's about $40-$50 a month for one line for unlimited minutes. They use Verizon towers here, I think.

Sometimes you can turn your phone to airplane mode at the location you want to be. Then turn off airplane mode after a few minutes. It causes your phone to search for a better tower.
