Clip to ScrapBook #1

A student (5th grader) broke both of his arms yesterday. One is in a cast to his arm pit (dominant), the other to his elbow. We have bathroom worked out but he is nervous about eating, and school work. He is an awesome kid with a ton of energy and it will be tough to keep him still for 8 weeks. We have assigned a buddy to help out but I would love any and all suggestions.

This poor kid needs the services of an Occupational Therapist who can help create a work-around for all his school needs. When something like this happens, my district puts the child on a temporary 504 and provides OT.

Also what about voice activated computer apps? You might check with speed teacher about what might help.

I did homebound instruction for a fella who broke both arms in a dirt bike accident. He had both arms in casts and one braced to his waist. He did six weeks with me at home, them he was able to move around more.

Oh my goodness, poor kid.
I can not imagine having two broken arms, especially now as an adult

He can use a marker on a whiteboard for math. Even with his non-dominant hand he should be able to write a bit and the marker gives little resistance. You have to trust him though to tell you if his hand gets achy. He might find this "fun" at least for a little while.
