Netflix Streaming- Mini Series

Just completed watching a Netflix mini series of 8 episodes titled Unbelievable that was very good. It is about a serial rapists based on a true story and two detectives from different areas who work together to try and solve. Rapes are not shown. Victims just report assaults to police, so not too graphic.

I watched the entire season yesterday and loved it. I am a Law & Order junkie and it reminded me a lot of that show, so I really enjoyed it! Interesting and sad story.

Thanks for the recommendations. As another L&O junkie, I can’t wait to start it.

I read about this show but haven't started it, as I am in the middle of another series. But great to know! I love Law and Order, so am really looking forward to Unbelievable.

If graphic content bothers you, wildflowerz, I think this might be something to watch out for. I know 1956 posted it’s “not too graphic,” but I think it presents rape in a very frightening manner. Yes, there is some content not shown, but it’s there (and some is shown). I’m only on Episode 4, so maybe I’m missing something, but so far I agree with the warnings that precede each episode.

Yes, I still like it very much, but IMO it’s definitely more graphic than L&O.

I am very visual so the fact that the actual rape was not shown made it easier for me to view. But I understand that everyone is different.

I agree that weíre all different, but Iím starting to feel like we watched 2 different presentations. As I said, Iím not very far into it, but the version I watched definitely showed portions of the 2nd discovered victimís rape (the heavy-set young woman who was studying computer programming). I can still see those scenes in my mindís eye.

Unbelievable

The warning for the series does say

Inspired by true event, Unbelievable follows investigations of sexual assault and includes depictions of sexual violence.

Normally that would have scared me off. But I am glad I watched this series because I enjoyed the story and thought the actors did a great job in their roles. I thought the series did a good comparison of police who listen and support a victim verses police officers who are polite but assume women make these stories of rape up sometimes. The male officers were not supportive. Unbelievable also did a good job of showing how different victims react in a variety of ways to similar rapes.

I felt seeing the rapes as flashbacks from the victims rather than seeing it first hand as part of the story was easier to handle emotionally.

For one thing most of the rapes lasted all night which is a very long time. So had the assaults been shown as happening it would have been longer on screen than the flashbacks, which were just a few seconds each.

Two, seeing the rapes through flashbacks meant as the viewer we knew that the rape victims survived. If they had been shown as they happened I personally would have been very anxious because I did not know if it was going to end in the death of the victim. This would have been very difficult especially since I knew the story was based on a true series of event.

Just my opinion

We do agree on the most important thing: the series is excellent. I, too, think the writers and actors did a great job. Iím looking forward to finding time to watch more.
