Good evening to all-
My son seems to be coping with first year middle school teaching pretty well. He's still mobile, still standing on two feet, and he can still carry on a cogent conversation. All in all, I'd say he is doing well.
For Christmas, we always have a hard time choosing gifts for him every year. this year, we got him a gift of the month thing. It's for biology teachers, and it's a "Bones of the month" program. this month he got a skull from a mole and some sort of claw from some other animal.
He loved it. He put his present bones on display, and of course, his weird middle school students loved it.
We have sent him mosses and other primitive plants which grow wild here but not where he lives- in Arizona. His kids loved the pitcher plants we dug up and sent him.
He's talking about transferring the grandsons to his school next year- I think that's a good idea. Its a very good school, and there is much to be said for having your own kids right there in the school one teaches at- for a number of reasons.
So, I guess he'll hang in there and keep on keeping on.
good night to all- Ed

So glad he is having a great first year! We need more people entering and staying in the profession like him. And what a terrific and original gift you gave him! I had never heard of a subscription box like that.

So happy all is going well with your son’s teaching year! Oh my! Your gift was spot on. I’ve always said It takes a special person to be able to teach middle school!
My son in law has been teaching middle school for close to 12 years. He’s teaching in Las Vegas. I’ve always enjoyed his hilarious stories when we’re together. We love to talk “teaching talk.” But lately he’s been suffering from pretty bad burn out. Last year he told my daughter he either wanted to become an insurance salesman or work at Smith’s Grocery store. That sort of breaks my heart. I’ve been there. Sometimes teaching can get so stressful that you long for a simple job. I wanted to be a receptionist in a very slow office. I’m hoping he’ll hang in there. Seriously teaching middle school is one of the most important jobs in America! We need good middle school teachers! And your son is one of that tribe. Know you are very proud of him!
