Christmas Frustrations

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Didn't want to hijack a thread, but did want to agree with others that Christmas planning is pretty much right on track for me, with the exception of 2 foods that the family insists are essential: Chex Mix and an old family recipe that is a sort of fruit cake in muffin tins, but not nearly as labor intensive or involves all that candied fruit.

But man plans and God laughs...

We have ONE grocery store in my town. Went down to pick up the garlic Bagel Chips for the Chex Mix and the candied pineapple for those not-fruitcake deals. I wasn't surprised to find they had no candied pineapple - they usually get one shipment of candied fruit in and that's that.

But --- NO GARLIC BAGEL CHIPS??? NO BAGEL CHIPS AT ALL??? And with the news that "bagel chips hadn't been selling well, so they are probably discontinued." REALLY???

Yikes... the next closest grocery store is 95 miles away, and Amazon can't guarantee delivery until after the holiday.

Darn.

But sounds like you will have to make substitutions. Who knows maybe the new varieties will become a new tradition.

Next year I guess you should buy early and if your grocery store does not have these items mid November you can order them online.

Hope everyone is not too disappointed.

Can you make your own bagel chips and candied pineapple?

Amazon is out --- I checked and delivery won't be until Dec 27. No normal 2-day is available. Probably because of the holiday.

Walmart is out --- They are not worth the $29 for 1 lb. Walmart wants.

My husband is picking up his 87 year-old mother Sunday, so I plan to call some grocery stores in that town tomorrow and see if they have what I need.

I looked up making my own glace pineapple --- It takes at least a week!

After looking up bagel chips --- I think those are definitely something I could do! (And then I can throw in some added garlic! Always a good thing!)

Thanks for the suggestions!
