do you give the teacher a reason? We have 17 days left and I needed to cancel a job.

Thanks for your input.

Only if the teacher specifically requested me and I would only cancel if I was sick. If it was not a request I'd cancel without notice. Someone else will usually quickly pick up the job.

I agree with Sublime. If I was requested I email the teacher to let them know why I have to cancel. If it's just a job I pick up, no - but I wouldn't cancel the day of unless it was an emergency.

I make a personal contact. If I just picked up the job from Smartfind, I just cancel in the system ( we are required to give a reason). I had to cancel my jobs for the rest of the week cause I got pinkeye from a student.

I work through Kelly Educational staffing and the Aesops site. I cancel as soon as I know, but no reason is required. They don't stay empty long!

been asked to give a reason for a cancellation that was well in advance. Kelly penalizes us if it's within 24 hours of start time...if we get three in one year then we are only allowed to get last minute jobs. Seems fair. I've only had one emergency with my son where I had to cancel last minute.

Oddduck...where you work are you allowed to cancel on the computer in AESOP? Or do you have to call Kelly to cancel. We used to be able to cancel online before Kelly too over. That was one of the changes.

I have called the "scheduling team" which is part of Aesop. Seems like they and the teachers are the only ones that can put the assignment back up. I had to leave ill one afternoon (out of 2 school years) so called my local Kelly office. I had no problem. They stated they would contact the school and see if they wanted a replacement or just ride out the afternoon. It was already about 1:00 and was for a para in high school. This particular school also has a few permanent subs on campus.

Supposedly Kelly here needs subs so maybe that is why they are flexible and working with us. I usually only take assignments in the morning, not scheduled days ahead. So even the "punishment" wouldn't have much impact on me!

Oh, also I have hit accept rather than reject before and had to call the scheduling team. No problem. I am unable to change that myself. Never have been able to change anything.

Only once have I needed to give a reason. I was scheduled for an interview on a Tuesday and the interview was changed a few hours later to Wednesday. I had to call and cancel again. The second time they wanted a reason. I lost money on the deal. I traded two $100.00 days for an $80.00 and a $45.00 half day so I could have the interview on the afternoon of the second day.

Submomma, I feel it is terrible that you can only cancel last minute 3 times. Sometimes people wake up feeling sick 3 times or more per year. Being punished for that is ridiculous.

I've had to cancel a few times when a health or family issue comes up. I've also had jobs cancelled on me when teachers' plans change, so I figure it all evens out. Frankly, I do my best to honor my commitments, but occasionally there are extenuating circumstances and I always put my health and concern for my family first.

We use Subfinder and we can cancel without any explanation.
