I love Bity Baby from American Girl. They are expensive though. https://www.americangirl.com/shop/p/...n-eyes-dry40ds

I like the small soft dolls for the first doll. They are a bit like a stuffed animal. Plus they tend to be not as long (not always) so they are a more manageable size for a young girl. Also all the facial features are usually sewn on so there are no eyes that can be bitten off and swallowed. Amazon has several soft baby dolls. This is just one.

My daughter received a Corolle baby when she was little. She is seven now and it has held up well. Iím not sure if the link is the exact doll or not. I feel like it may have been more expensive. I will say the best thing about it is its heavenly scent! It still smells good after all this time.

Another vote here for the Corelle dolls. DD got one for her 1st Christmas at 10 months old. She plays with "my little baby" every single day and it has held up well. They are a little pricey but not as bad as Bitty Baby.

I second the American Girl Bitty Baby. Both of my daughters had one and they held up very nicely. They still have them in storage. You can specify skin and hair color.

Is she a cuddler or a doer?

Bitty baby and Haba are both really nice for cuddles, and Bitty Baby you can customize to look like her.

But I think one of my best purchases for my niece was a vinyl Cabbage Patch Doll from Target. She drink and wet, and because she was all vinyl, she did everything. She could go in the bath or the pool without being ruined, and could quickly be cleaned up whenever their was a spill or accident.

My DD received her Bitty Baby as a gift for her first birthday. She played with it for many years, even after she got the bigger American Girl doll when she was seven. One thing I really liked about the Bitty Baby was that relatives could easily buy outfits for gifts online.
