Favorite Oldie movie?

The movie thread got me thinking about old movies that are favorites or must watch. Iím talking old: nothing before say, 1965 or so. Preferably the 30s-50s, when movie stars worked on contract for movie companies and everything seemed so glamorous, at least on the surface.

What are some favorites you would recommend?

I love Singing in the Rain, but I canít remember what year that was made. I think it counts in the time period given. I love Gone with the Wind, but itís been ten years since Iíve watched it.

Others: Robin Hood with Errol Flynn is great fun. (I actually have a property within walking distance of the park in which scenes from this movie were madeó with Robin Hood and the Merry Men cavorting in the tree branches...)

John Wayne westerns, any of them. Anything Jimmy Stewart is in... Grace Kelly in Rear Window (with Jimmy.)

Iíve heard Casablanca is the greatest movie of all time or nearly so, but Iíve never watched it.

From way before my time, but I really enjoy Doris Day movies.
Also, some of the less creepy Alfred Hitchcock movies. Just recently rewatched Rear Window and I think my favorite part was Grace Kelley's fabulous wardrobe!!

I love old musicals. Anything with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire is a fun couple of hours. My all time favorites are Singing in the Rain and Oklahoma. I agree with Hitchcock, and old noir movies are wonderful. I'm not sure if it's the greatest movie ever, but you really should see Casablanca.

It's a Wonderful Life
Singing in the Rain
Sabrina _ the Audrey Hepburn/Humphrey Bogart version - not the awful Harrison Ford version
