From Classroom to Library

Hi everyone!
My principal asked me if I would like to be librarian next school year. The outgoing librarian recommended me, as life has taken her other places. I am super stoked! The first thing my principal wants me to do is reconfigure the layout. Honestly, our library doesn't feel primary (K-5 building), the tables and chairs are all for adults, bookcases are on the tall side and I always feel like the kids can hide in various places and run a-muck. Of course- money is limited. Any ideas on how to primary-ize the library? I want kids to want to come and stay, right now they walk in and leave. Any resources for purchasing things for the library as well? Furniture, pictures, decorations...

Thanks so much!
Janne

It is the best move I've ever made, going from the classroom into the library. I would start by looking at sites like www.demco.com and www.upstartpromotions.com because they will have a lot of what you are looking for. I've been in the library for about 10 years now. If you have any other questions, just ask!

Thanks so much! I've been in the classroom for 10 years, was starting to feel ready for something else....I really can't wait! There seems to be a lot to do! 1,000 students and 22,000 books! This is going to be a task Luckily I have the summer to get started! If, I was told a week before school started I don't know how I would manage.
