Will they think I am nuts for asking this?

After reading the replies, yes, apparently some of them think you're nuts for asking. They also seem to think it's nuts that you sub as a full time job. Some of the replies are a little condescending.

It sucks that your schools don't find you something! I've always been reassigned if I wanted to stay, even if it was just to help in kindergarten. - If anyone thinks you're nuts for asking, I expect it's because their schools take care of their subs that way too.

And I see nothing wrong with being a career sub. I, personally, am probably considered one of the "moms who want something to do" type they mentioned, but for someone who loves teaching, but wants to keep their hours reasonable and not bring work home every day, subbing is perfect!

I agree that some of the replies were somewhat condescending, but there is another forum where I would not even bother asking this because the responses would be downright rude.

The most annoying and absurd responses are from those who say they would be happy with partial payment for just showing up.

This could be one reason this district had 31 unfilled vacancies on March 17 at 8:30 AM.

If the district did the right thing and paid us the full day for showing up, there would be no reason to even ask this question. '

From things you've said id leave your district after a week and sign up somewhere else. You need to go shopping for a new district. My district accidentally put in half day as a full day two days ago.. I did some lunch duties as an extra body and had last period off. They paid me for a full day. That was the reasonable thing to do. They also apologized to me and thanked me for doing "lower end work" in The afternoon. Seriously man... Go somewhere else. Nobody deserves to be disrespected.

They have work nearly every day and are responsible for about 50% of my jobs.

I work at two other higher paying districts, but work is less consistent.

I am lucky that 80% of the time there is somewhere else to go, but I still lose out once or twice a year.

My guess was that the "no" answers would be about 80%, but I was off a little.

The actual "no"s are closer to 90%, with only one "yes' response.
