My formal evaluation today... I feel like crying

I had my formal evaluation today.
The kids were practically perfect and my entire lesson went according to plan.

My evaluator just shrugged and made a wincy face when I asked her what she thought. She told me to wait for the notes.

This is my first year teaching... and I subject I had never really considered teaching before. I have NO IDEA what she is looking for other than a lesson objective, adherence to a lesson plan, a managed classroom, and an assessment. My kids were even engaged, mostly having fun and doing really well.

I really hope my evaluation isn't that bad. If it is bad, I can see why people don't want to be teachers anymore. WTF? It's just too hard.

DON'T PANIC!

Hopefully she'll get back to you quickly so you don't have to suffer long!

It sounds as if it went well, so I would not take her facial expression as an indication of a bad eval...you really have to wait for the notes.

If you don't hear from her today, be sure to treat yourself kindly this weekend. You deserve a nice dinner (and maybe a little glass of wine). Actually, you'll deserve that if you do hear from her, too...no matter what her notes look like! Evaluations are stressful!

Don't be too hard on yourself

I think every one of us put a great deal of reflection in while we try to do our best for the children.
Do you have an outline for the evaluation so you know what to expect? Many of us are being evaluated with the Charlotte Danielson model.
Do something nice for yourself this weekend as a treat for putting so much effort into a great lesson.

I am nearly finished with my schooling, and I really don't want to do it. Unfortunately I need to pay back student loans so I must at least fake it for a while. But after that, I will go out and get a real job, like at a garden center.

I am not going to have the shrieking un-managed classroom that these administrators seem to want.

I'd also like to know who these Yahoos are that get to judge you. If I had known about this, I would have chosen another career.

My district seems to think that nobody can get the top scores. What can you do if you get a Developing rating on a lot of the areas when everything seems to be going good? In another state I worked in I got all Excellents. It's very discouraging to put a lot of time and effort into a lesson to only get a 2 or 3 level score on a 1-4 scale.
