I just did a Google Meet with a class and only 3/25 showed up. I think the kids are just done. Parents are done. And, if we’re honest, teachers have checked out too. Don’t take it personally.

What are you talking about?! I am just as passionate about this remote learning as I was in the beginning, and I'm lucky enough to have five weeks left to go. It's AWESOME!!! The next five weeks are going to be fun, and I'm looking forward to it!

That’s so funny! We are all sick if it, but at the same time, it’s so weird to not see these guys every day!
In our district, things are fairly relaxed, so I haven’t done much Zoom. I thought maybe one time before the school year officially ends...which is why I sat there waiting for 15 minutes before I decided no one was coming to my party...whomp whomp!

Sassyteach, we have one week left. We are ending a full week early on the “high school senior” schedule to keep it simple. I’m not sorry about it, either! I’m so sorry you have more than a month left. Not sure I could handle that!

I scheduled meetings three times a week. Then twice a week. Then once a week. Then I stopped. I saw five kids the whole time. Five. Our of 85.

One kid has done NOTHING the entire time. He also doesn’t respond to emails or phone calls. Friday is the last day kids can turn in work. He messages me MONDAY to ask how he can pass 8th grade. He’s in full panic mode. He went into fourth nine weeks hovering at around a 50% and needed this nine weeks to pass. Then did nothing. “I need help with the work, but then you stopped having meeting.” My head almost exploded.

I had Zoom office hours yesterday from 1 - 3 for students to ask questions or voice concerns about classes. I had 5 out of 140 students pop in just to say hi and chat. I currently have 45 F's with two weeks left in school, and no one has questions or concerns? I agree with Greyhound Girl, we are all just done with this year.

Yesterday, I did my second Zoom meeting. They are not required in my district. My students use an online program for their coursework. So basically, I have to check to see if they are completing work and checking any work that requires them to write out their answer.

During our meeting, my third graders talked about how much they hate online learning. They all said they would rather be in school. I am with them. I was happy because 14 out of 24 students showed up.

I think I am going to try office hours next week.

i hear you all. it's very discouraging to spend hours on converting school to digital (on an almost daily basis), and then there are kids who don't care and don't show up.

My son’s teacher was doing daily Zooms, and we did really well for a couple of weeks. After that, he joined up about twice a week. Then we went to once a week. Then, nada.

I felt bad, but my kid was 100% over it. He got done with his schoolwork and hit the door to ride his bike all afternoon.
