Substitute teachers prepare for COVID-19 impact when school year begins

At least someone is covering our predicament in CA? We never get any exposure here.

Thoughts?

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Thoughts: *I truly believe there will be no schools open this fall.

*If there is, a sub could, ostensibly, be called in for a teacher who is sick with the virus. Don't know if that would be disclosed on acceptance of assignment.
*I see this as a 'no win' situation for many subs, whether to chance it and sub or not sub and stay home. I'm in the age group (though without any underlying health issues) that is at risk.
*So, right now, I don't know if I would go back unless I was reassured it was 'safe.'
*In addition, I don't know if I could wear a mask all day and breath my own carbon dioxide, proven not healthy for you.
*Miss the kids, though, immensely.

i honestly just don't know how the district i work in will be able to maintain distance in the classrooms. i can't see how more than 12 kids will fit. our schools are old and the classrooms are small. the final plan is going to be released on the 30th and school opens on the 17th.

Jakeh: / Those fit thoughts fit my situation and how I feel as of this time prior to school opening. It is a big question mark for me and this is from someone who worked daily for the year till closure.

I thought it was pretty funny (or sad) when I looked at the 8-page guidelines that the CDC put out and it said to facilitate social distancing they said to limit high school to 33 students.

Something tells me that someone is out of touch.

i also saw something about leaving windows open. a LOT of rooms don't even have windows!

random thought - i wonder what will happen with band. i like subbing band, but is having people spitting and blowing all over stuff gonna work now? probably not.

I heard a talk show host say on the radio to put up plexiglass so the teacher is 8 feet from the students, teach behind the plexiglass, and problem solved. I thought, "This guy has no idea what goes on in a classroom." Maybe in high school, but not middle or elementary.

Very, very true, Sublime. I've been subbing for 21-years and wouldn't have made it one year if that was the case. But, I might have avoided some colds/flu during the years...
