I have been teaching F2F since the year began. Our district uses an assessment and data-driven instruction to present differentiated lessons for kids online. The students log-in so many minutes a week, get lessons at their levels, etc, etc. Today was the day we did the mid-year benchmark test, though we're no where near mid-year yet. There's a feature that lets you see how the students answer in "real time." I had several students simply choose A, A, A, A for about 10 answers straight. None of those answers were A.

I can teach them the material on the test, I can teach them how to take a test, I can't make them put forth any effort. Sigh......just venting to those I know will understand.

Oh, that sure is annoying! I always get frustrated at testing time. The gifted kid who doesn't even take enough time to answer the questions. The kids who painstakingly draw arrays to "show their work" yet get the wrong answer because they didn't actually count what they put in the arrays. The kids who rush through so they can be first or so they can read their book. And those that just pick answers to be done...

If only they were held accountable for these scores. In our district those scores aren't part of their grades. Actually, just a year ago they counted ONLY for the teacher's evaluation. Where is the equity there?

I did much better if I didn't look too closely at them, otherwise, it totally frustrated me.

I know what you mean. The people that decided that high stakes tests are a good measure of what students actually know obviously didn’t know many actual students.

We are virtual, and I don't understand why we are testing these students? There isn't a real way to prove validity even if we are watching them on camera. We have to put our students' test scores on an online data wall that teachers from other schools can see.

I understand! Our online testing is next week and some of the students will be testing remotely. I have a feeling students will be choosing A as their answer also - for all questions.
