I use an electric tea kettle. In a pinch I use a saucepan because I don't have a stove top tea kettle anymore. (I replaced the last one with the electric one.)
I don't drink it very often, but I've been thinking about trying some of the ones I keep seeing pop up in my Trader Joe's FB group. It would be nice on cold evenings! When I do drink it I use the microwave. I understand that this is apparently seen as horrific to British people who drink tea every day . Sorry, I don't get the outrage. It heats up the water, no? And I don't have to waste time waiting for it or dirtying another appliance.

Yes, I have a British friend who is appalled by the haphazardness in the way Americans make tea.
I've made tea in all the above ways, but now I just used the microwave.
Why?
1. It is quicker.
2. It tastes fine that way to me.
3. As far as the British thinking it's horrific, I could care less!
I used to have a tea kettle for the stove and I loved it. I've used an electronic tea kettle for the longest time. I'll also use the microwave if needed. I like the electronic kettle best, since I can have multiple cups easily. I also make hot chocolate (which I much prefer to tea ) with the electric tea kettle.
I heat fresh cold water for tea in a stove top tea kettle. At school when I was working I used an electric tea kettle.
A sauce pan doesn’t have a spout for safe pouring of the boiling water. Plus, it would have been used for other cooking needs. A tea kettle should never be used for anything else but tea.
ETA..The water where I live is safe to drink right out of the faucet, and that’s what I use to make tea. No filter of any kind.

I have one but, if I remember correctly, the directions said to use purified water-but maybe I am not remembering correctly. I only tend to drink tea (or instant hot chocolate) in the winter months so I used the electric tea kettle a couple years ago but didn't want to keep having to buy bottled water.
Do you buy bottled water or use water directly out of the faucet?
If so, do you have some kind of water treatment or filter?

I know many appliances like diffusers and cpap machines state to use purified water. I'm not an expert, but I know when I use my diffuser or electric water flosser with tap water, it is much more prone to mold growth. Maybe that's why?
For speed, the microwave. Never really thought about a full rolling boil to help makes sure it stays hot. My DH is the true tea drinker. Me on occasion.
I love the instant hot! I grew up with one in my house and put one in as soon as I moved out. My husband had never heard of it and thought it was pretty handy. I love it for filling a pot of water to boil, too.
