My sister who lives in Fl is having a problem. She has mosquito bites all over her arms (maybe other places too, I'll have to ask). She is so itchy and it's driving her crazy. She doesn't know where they are coming from.
She checked for bedbugs (none), fleas altho she has no pets, No sign of why she's getting bitten or from where. Her husband has no bites at all.
Any ideas? Thx
Is she 100% sure they're mosquito bites? Especially if she hasn't been hanging around outside, that seems very unlikely that she'd have so many. I would bet it's more something like hives. If she can't identify any new products she's been using that might be causing an allergy, I'd say she needs to visit a Dr.
Contact dermatitis?
DH had what looked like bites on his arm, and I had none. Dermatologist said contact dermatitis. Still no idea what the contact was, but a cream prescription cleared it up. So I’d suggest a dermatologist visit.
Could they be no-see-ums? What part of Florida is she in?
When I moved here I was attacked by some kind of insect. My husband had no bites but my legs were covered. I thought I was going crazy. It was horrible. I ended up with bites on my head.
I went to a lice clinic but they didn’t find anything.
I checked my bed but had no signs of bed bugs. I bought a new mattress anyway. I miss my old mattress!
We also got an exterminator for the house and garage, cleaned from top to bottom, threw away the cat tree, steam cleaned the carpet, washed all bedding and animal toys in hot water. I started using a soap with tea tree oil to repel insects. It stopped.
ants-I was wearing a long skirt one day and was standing on my front door step. Did not realize I was standing in a line of little tiny ants, like ants you get in the kitchen. They had crawled up my skirt. Next day I woke up with bites all over my legs and stomach. I thought bed bugs and flipped out. But no. ants
Are there chiggers in FL? I had chiggers once and they were like mosquito bites and you can't see the darn things. They were concentrated around areas where my clothing was tighter--waistband, bra strap, etc. Ugh, just thinking of it makes me itch!
I live in South Florida. Right now there are very few mosquitos (during our winter) but they are still around at dusk. If she has all these bites, but her husband doesn't, I'm thinking it's something else. She should take some benedryl and apply some anti-itch cream. If she's still full of bites, she should have it checked by a dr.
Its been a fairly cold December and January here so I would be surprised if they are mosquitoes. I agree with those who have suggested a doctor visit. Her primary care should be able to figure it out. Hope she gets answers and feels better soon!
My sister's house was infiltrated with mosquitos and had no idea where they were coming from. They found that they were getting into the house from their new a/c. They cleaned up the mosquitos and its eggs; and got new a/c.
I also live in FL and mosquitoes seem to be attracted to me. I can be with a group of people and be the only one to get bit.I’m also highly allergic. I was outside briefly the other night and got bitten despite it being 50 degrees outside.
Contact dermatitis is a good suggestion.
But, also have her check her the seals on her windows and if she has any sliding glass or French doors, those as well. I get flies in my sink drain in the summer so have her check that as well.
I had a hornet build a nest inside the top of my sliding glass door (on the inside) because the door was not sealed appropriately. Just an idea.
Benadryl makes a cream that is much better to use than the liquid. The liquid can make you very drowsy which can be a problem during the day. On the other hand, liquid Benadryl can make you hyper which is a problem at night.lol
Are you sure it isn’t hives? I have had hives break out on my arms from stress.
Thanks for all the possibilities! I read this to her last night. This morning she told me she started some new OTC med 10,000 mcg (not mg) and a normal dose was much much much less. (she started it a week and a half ago) I think it was biotin. She said for her skin, nails, hair. She is stopping it today to see if she feels better. I think she tried the benadryl too.
