We read the book Dr. Pompo's Nose and the kids each turn their pumpkin on it's side so the stem is the nose. I provide lots of construction paper, yarn, and glue, and they get creative. It's fun and the turn out so neat!

Book Characters

Clip to ScrapBook #3

Eight years ago we started having the first graders decorate pumpkins at home with their families. They bring them in the week before Halloween to display in our hallway. We tell them to pick a book character. You should see some of the creativity! They can use paint, markers, fabric, wigs, etc. etc. Anything except carving or puncturing the pumpkin in any way (because they rot so quickly). We ask them to bring along the book they used as their inspiration and then we display it next to their pumpkin. Every year I am so impressed with how well these turn out!!

HAPPY DECORATING!
