There are just a lot of threads right now. I have to fill out a form to determine my eligibility, which they haven’t sent yet. If they deny me I can appeal. It sounds like some of you have already done this. Any results? I contacted my union to see if they can contact the State education department directly to expedite my process if I need to get on PUA. Of course, I can’t get through to anyone on the phone so this makes it impossible for me to actually rectify my situation. There is a class action lawsuit going on in my state for people who never even got money from March. This is really trying my patience and it seems like a long process to tell you you are going to have to apply for PUA.

There are several posts before yours where we've discussed UI in California. You may want to check those out. I do not know if the same thing is happening in other states. It seems many of us in CA are pending payment because EDD may not consider us eligible in the summer.

Yeah I was seeing if anyone had actually plead their case over the phone and gotten an answer.

Your district will not be able to help you and neither will a union, both came up empty for me.

I feel like this is a two week drama for me to just tell me to get on PUA and I feel like I’m wasting time mailing in a form. Still can’t get them on the phone. I am seriously considering joining that class action lawsuit.

After two hours of frustration, I actually got on the phone with EDD in CA today and learned that, yes indeed they have flagged all education professionals in California and they are reassessing wages that might be due to employees on an individual case by case basis. They actually have a team within EDD assigned to work with school employees. My case is being looked at right now, because I did not get paid yet for the past two weeks, and the district that I work for was indeed in session through the 18th, but as expected, I am having to fight with for these final weeks of pay which I am legitimately due. We will see what happens. All of This being said, I doubt that any of us will see any summertime pay from unemployment. I am not sure how the PUA works, however, I will look into it once I get this UI issue resolved. I’m pretty sure we all know that the letters of assurance we received means absolutely nothing because our schools have no idea what’s going to be happening in the fall and they cannot assure us of anything!

I have to fill out a form for every school I worked for, the last day of employment and what my largest paycheck was and if the work was part time or not.

They then make a decision based on that or they call me( in theory).

PUA was originally for self employed and unemployed, but it is also for people who had their initial claims like ours denied. I think we will get at least the 600 week at some point, but I am guessing it will take until the end of summer. Another govt clusterf*ck of the first degree.

I have a phone interview scheduled with NJ DOL in a week to discuss this and the overpayment of my UI claim. I will keep everyone posted on how it goes.

The letters of assurance do indeed assure that you cannot collect unemployment in the summer.

This is their purpose.

The districts don't care when or if we are returning to work. These letters have served their intended purpose regardless.

None of my districts mentioned unemployment in the "returning in September sub letter". It simply asked if I needed to update my address, phone number, etc... Another district didnt send me anything at all (which is unusual for them) so I just emailed the sub coordinator letting her know I wish to remain on the sub list for the next school year. She responded and thanked me for letting her know.

Therefore if your district doesn't directly mention about collecting benefits over the sumner, I would definitely continue to collect as long as the state allows you to.

My union and school district both said the district was not trying to stop my claim. The state education department determines our ability to collect unemployment during breaks.

This is not true this year. I still received the Letters of Reasonable Assurance but there is another letter we should have received from schools telling you that you were elible for unemployment. Only one of my districts sent out this letter and that was after I started collected UC.
