5th Grade New Common Core Standards

Clip to ScrapBook #1

I teach 5th grade and we are starting to map out the New Common Core Standards. It seems that the new standards are going to emphasis the Western Hemisphere. Has anyone already mapped the standards out? I am not sure if it is better to have a separate region, government, and economy units. Or focus on North America first and then South America and then blend all the concepts together. Thank you for your input.

It is my understanding that there are not comon core standards as of yet for social studies. There are some about reading social studies texts for 6-12, but not at the elementary level. In Indiana, we are using the state standards for science and social studies and history is American History just to the time of the Founding Documents. I'm not sure where you are from, but you might check your state's doe site.
