Read them a traditional version of Cinderella. Then read one from another place in the world: China/Yeh-Shen, Domatilla/Mexico, Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters/Africa and on and on and on. Once you do the first one together-a giant venn diagram on the board, they can do others easily.

Mine love Cinderella books from aroung the world.
But it wouldn't even have to be Cinderella, most FT's would work. You can even compare and contrast a book with a Disney movie version.

Compare and contrast holidays. Pair the students and do themselves.

Compare and contrast being in first grade with being in kindergarten and use a venn diagram.
I did something like this with the grade I teach, and they really understood compare and contrast for many other more difficult situations.

I usually read Stellaluna by Janel Cannon, then complete a Venn diagram comparing birds and bats.
