I'm don't think the prep time dispute has any bearing on your case for resigning.
BEFORE you resign, check the laws of your state about teachers breaking contracts. Some states allow the district to levy cash fines, others to suspend the teacher's credential (which means no work in other districts within the state). It's important to find out what possible consequences are first. You might call the HR department from an untraceable-back-to-you phone and ask for information on what consequences might be applied for a resignation during the year for another job. You don't need to give your name, just ask for information.
You could also check with your union/association for similar information (to cross check for accuracy). They've undoubtedly dealt with the issue before.
