I teach a moderate/ severe self contained middle school classroom. I also work in a Title 1 school. Fridays are our school’s IEP days. Today I had an IEP and I was the only one there. The parents didn’t show, the speech pathologist and general education both had subs and my principal got called out for an emergency. After ten minutes waiting in the conference room and calling to see if I could at least get ahold of the parents, I tracked down the assistant principal and we had the IEP with just the two of us. It was crazy , never had that happen before.

Well, I'll bet the meeting ran smoothly and ended quickly.

I have one this week with ten people expected to attend.

Being new to special education I am always conflicted with what to do when people don't show up. Technically, aren't you not allowed to have an IEP without people there? I'm never sure if I should hold it or not. Also, I'm surprised your school has IEP meetings on Fridays. Fridays tend to be crazy, have more people out, have more random days off, etc. Monday and Friday seem like bad days for IEPs. Good thing you were able to find at least one person to get it done though. Rescheduling is always a nightmare.

We send calendar invites through Google calendar.
Also, if they can’t be there, we are suppose to have them fill out a form with their input for the meeting in writing.

In my district, the only way we'd have that meeting if it was due that day. And with no one being there, I'm doubting we'd hold it all.
