My dog has decided that every time I put on jeans, it must mean we're going in the car. She hates going in the car so if I put on jeans then she won't go for a walk. It's cracking me up. I have one pair of jeans and didn't wear them during pandemic teaching, only getting a new pair last month, so I didn't realize what was going on until a few days ago. I'd get her leash to go for a walk and she'd hide under the table.
It's funny how they pick up on cues like that. My dog can always tell when I'm getting ready to go somewhere. She sticks to me like glue while I'm getting ready.
My dogs always check out what I’m wearing- this is them peeking into my room to see what I’m wearing.
If I put on running clothes the big dog knows he is going out. Walking clothes, the little one goes for a walk. If they see me wearing anything else, they usually go hang out elsewhere
My cats do the same thing with shoes! My previous one did it as well. I never wear shoes in the house, but very occasionally I will put the shoes on and then remember some task I have to do before leaving, so I'm walking around in them. They act terrified any time I'm wearing them.
For my last cat, it kind of made sense because he had many health issues and went to the vet frequently. I'd get myself ready, get the car ready, and then come back in and put him in his carrier. It's feasible that he figured out me still walking around the house in shoes meant he was going somewhere. Not sure about the new cats though.
That is so funny! Your dog is so smart to pick up on the jeans and the car.
We noticed a long time ago that our dog knows when we are leaving for the day, but I think most dogs pick up on that routine. In the last year, we noticed our dog knows by our shoes if we are going out to the back yard.
