Please tell me how you organize your mentor texts?

I am working on organizing books that I want to use to teach mini lessons.

What works for you? How do you find the books that you need for a specific lesson quickly?

Do you put labels on them? Post-its?
I'm looking for any ideas...

I have a lot of my themed books in monthly drawers. My other books are on my teacher bookshelf and I was thinking about putting category labels on the edge of the shelf where each set of books will go so I can find them easier. I was also thinking about using book bins on my shelf like I do in my classroom library. I will have to see when I get back into my classroom how this would work.

I've seen many teachers use magazine files for their books. Each file could hold a particular theme or skill that you're working on.

I keep my thematic and seasonal books on a shelf behind my desk divided with strips of laminated cardstock labeled with the name of the theme/season. I keep my mentor texts for reading, writing and some character development on another shelf behind my desk. They aren't really organized or labeled in any way, though, so I hope to hear some great ideas too!
