kid friendly resources - reading social studies text

Clip to ScrapBook #1

We have a very very old social studies book, to the point that it cannot be used well. (pages missing, text worn thin, etc). I'd like to have a page or so of Kid friendly text about each of our topics so that they can refer to it. I'm finding that reading for information just isn't part of how I've been teaching SS.

Anyone have a source of kid friendly articles about American history? (basically Native Americans, Explorers, Colonies, American Revolution, Am. Government through the Civil War)

TIA

Our Houghton Mifflin series came with about 15 samll books (all those topics you mentioned and more) published by time for Kids. I wonder if there's anything on their website about just buying the small (third grade friendly) books?
