No more room for a circle

I will be having 30 kids in my room next year. I mangaged to fit 30 desks in the room without giving up my meeting area, but could barely fit 22 kids in a circle let alone an additional 8. Any suggestions? I really like having morning meeting in a circle.

I feel you....uuuuffff 30.

I loop with my second and third graders and by the end of third grade my 24 DID not fit.

I used to have 3 kids go on the computers, 2 kids sit outside the circle and take notes on kids using their CARES.

You could have a special seat outside the circle. Or how about have 4 to 6 kids make a circle in the middle of the circle (they could be facing out) and they could be the ones who start each part of the morning meeting? HHMMM I might try that.

Could get rid of desks and have tables? I have tables and purposely do not have enough chair seating for everyone. I ahve chair seating for about half my class. Kids sit on the floor, use clipboards etc when working. We are never all at desks or tables working at the same time.

This might allow for a bigger carpet space.

Using CARES (Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy and Self Control) has literally changed most of our students' behavior for the better. We concentrate on one of the CARES a month. We build lessons around them, or playground behavior is based on using CARES and the language is easy enough that the parents are able to use the same vocabulary with their kids.

Hope that helps...

teach my kids to move their desks to make room for a circle. We practiced until they could do it in a few seconds and quickly put the desks back as well. You could use masking tape on the floor so they quickly know where to put desks back. Good luck!

I had 32 this past year and when I wanted them on the carpet we just pushed desks back to make room. A circle will be a little more difficult as it requires more room but I am going to give it a try.
