Adding to my collection of painted classroom furniture!

Clip to ScrapBook #1

Last summer I scored a great desk on Craigslist and painted it with polka dots and zebra stripes...then I did my filing cabinet and my bookshelf.

This summer I went to a garage sale and found two older style student desks in really decent shape for 5 bucks...for both of them!!! I love a good bargain, so I decided with a little bit of spray paint, chalkboard paint, and some elbow grease they would make a nice addition to my room...I have to share them with you all!!!!! I am so excited about them! I plan on using them as my writing station this year! The tops are chalkboard painted so the kids may even write on the desks!!!!

Very cute! You are talented. I'd love to see a picture of the filing cabinet. Any tips on how you did it would be appreciated.

Thank you all for your sweet comments! I can't wait to see the students' reactions with those desks...

I spray painted the filing cabinet....be sure to prime it first with a spray paint primer. I don't have a close up of the filing cabinet, but you can see it in my classroom pics I posted last year...I will see if I can find the link...

I absolutely love your creations! I think I am going to try the globes! I'm on a hunt tomorrow!

Can you share the process of creating the globes?

on the globe...

I used brush on chalkboard paint, but the spray paint kind would work too! I took the globe off the base and put one coat on half the sphere...then when it dried I flipped it to paint the other half...I believe it took 3 coats. I spray painted the base because it was an UGLY chipped gold color. Once it was all dry, I put the globe back on the base and rubbed chalk dust all over BEFORE writing anything...to "season" it. This will prevent shadowing when you write and erase on your chalkboard for the first time. Good luck finding a globe to reuse!!!

for the instructions. If I can't find a globe, I can come up with some other creation which uses the chalkboard paint. I alway wanted to try this technique and you just inspired me!

Thanks again!

Thanks for the link. I LOVE the filing cabinet, your teacher desk, and the bookshelf behind your desk. Did you hand paint the stripes, circles after spray painting the item first? Very nice!!

Wow! Thanks everyone!!!

I used mod podge to add the scrapbook paper to the file folder holder. Then I hot glued the ribbon on.

I used masking tape to create my stripes on the desk, filing cabinet, and bookshelf. I spray painted one color, let dry COMPLETELY, and then I tore the masking tape to create zebra stripes and spray painted the second color on top...it works like a reverse stencil or a mask. The polka dots were a stencil I made using a piece of posterboard...it took a while

Thanks again for all the sweet comments!
