I'm thinking of using an owl theme this year Observe, Wonder, Learn. Any good ideas from someone who is clever or has done it before? I teach 4th grade.

I love teaching about owls! We read "There's an owl in the Shower". We got owl pellets. We have a county ag/enviormental dept that comes into the schools ---she had stuffed owls and owl calls to listen to. I have several owl books. I will get you the titles if interested. I am leaving for a week today so, let me know and I can send those titles when i get back if you are still interested.

I Love owls! I do a unit every year. Do the owl pellets with the kids, it is a ton of fun. In fact, I wrote a Donor's Choose grant and got the pellet kits that way.

Here is a link to the inside of a live barn owl box. I hope the link works correctly --- I copied and pasted it from my Outlook account. I've been checking in on them all spring / summer. The female Molly and her mate McGee have already raised one clutch this summer, but have recently laid a new set of eggs. Be aware, though, that it is REAL nature. You may want to avoid watching ( or having the kids watch ) in the early, early morning hours -- California-time --- because that is when the parents bring back live rodents to be eaten.

It's still pretty cool, though, to watch them tend to their eggs, and then even more exciting once the owlets hatch.

Titles would be great--I would really appreciate it! Any ideas for bulletin boards, etc?
Thanks for all the other ideas.

School Mascot

I also teach fourth grade. Our school mascot is the owl. I've looked for years now to find owl themed things, but couldn't find anything until recently. At my local school store in the bulletin board things, they just started carrying a bulletin board set with a wise owl on it. I noticed in all the teacher books I've been getting in the mail that they now have owl name plates and owl mini accents. I think it is Teacher Created Materials or maybe Carson Delosa.

I hope this helps!
