I will be teaching Grade One in January..and am looking to incorporate classroom games...where the whole class is involved..eg "Heads Up Seven Up"++
If any of you have ideas of what you do in your classes, I would so appreciate you sharing them!

I'd draw a 4 x4 grid on the board The top row first square was blank write 2nd person, 3rd place, 4th thing
down the left column fill in the the 2nd 3rd 4th square with a letter.
After they played a few times I'd call on students for the letters

Then call on students to give answers.
say V the answers might be veterinarian or Vicki, Virginia, valentine
They can say the letter and and category...gets harder as the choices are used up. Some letters are easier to answer.

Another One Mouse and Cheese is a gentler version of Hangman.


I'd draw a wedge of cheese. Then __ __ __ __ for each letter of the word. If the guess was correct the letter went on the correct blank.
If incorrect We began drawing(I'm not an artist) the a part of the mouse. A part for each incorrect guess. Circle head. Oval Body eyes ears whisker,s and then the dreaded tail. If the mouse got completed he ate the cheese and won the game. I'd use words from math vocabulary, science unit, harder spelling words.



These games were quick and we often played them at the end of the day when they were all packed up and waiting for dismissal.

Google “scoot” games or look on Teachers Pay Teachers.
My kids Love scoot and you can do just about anything with it!

They also love STAR.
-everyone stands in a circle
- give the kids a word ( usually spelling or sight words)
- kids go around the circle each saying one letter of the word. After the last letter the next in the circle says “star” and the kid after them is out
- play until only one is left

I'd forgotten that one. The day I introduced it I could not remember the name so I called it Dill Pickle. some ho turning and saying Dill Pickle Made it quite funny to my 1st graders.

We played it if they missed a letter they were out (sat down in their space) or if they weren't paying attention they sat down.
