Dh is in the Coast Guard Reserves. Over the years, he has worked in various places around the country. Twice he has worked with another Coastie who is getting married in Buffalo in April. It would be nice to go, but considering we live on the west coast travel costs are not cheap. Even with that concept, Dh is "looking" for prices.

I decide to humor him (or convince him of reality) and look at a supplemental account that we don't use often. Well, we just got a major surprise! $13,000 worth of surprise It seems that out of nowhere, the Coast Guard FINALLY fixed a pay issue he has been fighting for 10 years. Holy Cow! Looks like were going to Buffalo in April.

Anyone near there? If we stay an extra day, what should we do?

Glad to hear it was positive news. I was afraid that the title was not good news.

You can see Niagara Falls. Also, they might still have snow depending on when you go in April!

Is in Buffalo! Try Niagara Falls, but I don't know what else is there. Maybe you could take a trip to New York while you are there?

It is great to have such a valuable surprise! Like finding treasure. Enjoy!

Congratulations on that awesome surprise! On behalf of my fellow WNY PT members, we hope you enjoy our little part of the world! BTW, contrary to popular belief, we may not have snow at the time of your visit!

Ditto what CKathyteach said!
I live about an hour south of Buffalo. Niagara Falls would definitely be my top suggestion.
There are also things like the Albright Knox art gallery, tours of homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Buffalo zoo (has an enclosed rainforest exhibit open year-round), and the Buffalo Museum of Science (I really liked the Egypt exhibit).

Welcome to WNY!

What a grand surprise!
Look out Buffalo.

Cross over to our side --- Canada. You can spend the day in Niagara Falls. Or visit Niagara-on-the-Lake.
How much time will you have?
Are you flying out of Buffalo or Niagara Falls NY?
No problem planning a day for you to spend in Niagara Falls.

There is a delightful, charming little town very near Buffalo called Lewiston. We stumbled upon it on our way back from Niagara Falls and want to go back to spend a day or two in the area. Check out the Lewiston website for further information. There's also a fort from the War of 1812 nearby - I forget the name but it was interesting.

Enjoy your trip!

Lewiston is across the river.
Fort Niagara is on the American side and Fort george is on the Canadian side.

I asked my DH if he knew anything about Buffalo, and the first thing he said was that they have a craft beer scene. So enjoy your trip and have a nice trappist ale for me .

Needs to get here soon. I'm excited. Thanks for the suggestions. At least I have plenty of time to plan what to do.

Niagara-On-The-Lake is a beautiful little town in Ontario. Toronto is just 2 hours away.
