dairy free ice cream?

Recently diagnosed with a medical condition where I can't have dairy. Which is pretty much ok, except for the ice cream part. I LOVE ice cream. I believe it's not a vacation unless you have ice cream everyday. So, you can see I'm pretty bummed. The doc said try dairy free ice cream, but I don't know where to start: soy, almond milk, etc. type.
Any yummy dairy free ice cream you know of and love?

I have found the Ben and Jerry's dairy free ice cream to be pretty good, especially if you like ice cream with lots of "stuff" (brownies, cookie dough, etc.) I'm probably not the best judge though, since I rarely ate ice cream when I could have dairy and haven't had real ice cream in a really long time!

I feel like I could writer novel on a dairy free life! I had to give it up a year ago, along with some other diet changes. I used to eat ice cream almost every night too, so I know where youíre coming from!

I like cashew ice cream the best. It has the creamiest texture similar to real ice cream. Coconut is okay, but itís more crumbly. (Although I do like making homemade coconut ice cream! Itís creamy when itís firat out of the ice cream maker!) Almond is okay too if itís flavored like with chocolate. I canít eat soy, so I canít speak to that.

I like the so delicious brand, especially the salted caramel bars.
http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/prod...salted-caramel They also make some good dairy free yogurt.

Redi whip also came out with an almond milk whipped cream, which is delicious!

I have found that since cutting dairy, I do crave ice cream less. But I have substituted with some other dairy free treats, like brownies and cookies!

The So Delicious Cashew Dairy Free is sooo good! I also love Trader Joe's Cherry Chocolate Chip Soy Dairy Free (tastes just like Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia Ice Cream!) I prefer it to Ben & Jerry's Dairy Free (which I thought was awful!)

Did you see that Yo Nanas machine where you simply put in frozen bananas and it spits out a yummy ice cream like treat.
Rocco Dispirito made something similar on Eat This! Not That!

"nice cream". Freeze ripe bananas in chunks. Put the frozen banana chunks in a food processor process until the bananas are pea sized. Add a tablespoon or two of cocoa powder and a splash of either coconut milk or almond milk. It will blend into a smooth creamy mixture. Yummy!

I have to eat gluten and dairy free. The Ben & Jerry's Almond Milk Cherry Garcia is my absolute favorite. It is just as good as the dairy full version! A little less creamy, but a great flavor.

Sorbet. I was someone who had a Greek yogurt or Kefir everyday. When I got pregnant last year my body did not like it anymore! Now that Iím breadtfeeding Iíve found dairy still doesnít work for myself or my son. Iíve tried the almond mills and coconut milk kind - itís just not the same
So, Iíve just replaced ice cream for sorbet... and dark chocolate covered almonds. I also agree with the PPs who suggested the frozen bananas treat.

I just realized I have a long winded way to say that if I canít have real ice cream Iíd rather just have something different instead of making it ďbeĒ ice cream

I made this banana ice cream tonight that was pretty good. Might try it tomorrow with some chocolate in it. Not hard at all.

Wow, thank you! I feel there is hope for me and my ice cream addiction. I'm going to try all of these, ha ha! They sound so yummy. Also, thanks for reminding me about the banana ice cream thing. Forgot about that option.

So Delicious Cashew Milk Ice Cream. You will not regret it. Nor will you taste a difference. I've been dairy free for about 4 years now and that's the best thing they've ever made. Ignore the almond milk stuff. Coconut milk ice cream is ok but has a hint of coconut flavor to EVERYTHING. Soy milk ice cream is my second top pick.
