I have my zoom account set up. I will use it for one on one help with the kids I tutor.

Is it better to schedule a set meeting time or to have them email me and request that I contact them?

I would email them and set up an agreed upon meeting time. Then you can send them the link to join you at that time.

I would say just be careful about meeting students one on one. I would record the sessions to have proof of what exactly transpired while you were online just in case the student or a parent tries to say that something else was shown or said during the meeting that didn't happen. We have been advised NOT to meet with any student one on one if at all possible.

Or require that a parent sit in with the student while youíre meeting.

I think you might run into some legal issues with recording.

Most of my kids have major helicopter parents - they usually sit at the table with us when I tutor

Just got off the phone with my niece who lives in The Midwest. She told me their district intended to use Zoom, they had practiced as a staff. Unfortunately, it was discovered that Zoom was being hacked, with the hackers putting pornography out there.

They have switched to Google meeting.

Iíve been retired long enough that I can express no opinion either way.

Beach Glass - This happened in a public zoom meeting where the host failed to set up the proper privacy settings and anyone could join the meeting. If you set up a zoom where only people who have the link can join youíre pretty safe.
